TOUR SUMMARY
From the initial overnight sailing to château stays, through scenic French countryside and into motorsport history — Legend Driving Tour with idriveaclassic is the only luxury driving tour that blends refined travel with an authentic race experience.
This four-day experience begins with château luxury and wine tastings, taking you through motorsport heritage at the Matra Museum, and builds towards a half-day track experience at the legendary Circuit de Charade — host of the French Grand Prix from 1965 to 1972.
Guests will suit up and take the wheel of a Formula Ford single-seater, retracing the steps of icons like Jackie Stewart in what could be described as a little Le Mans, before celebrating with a Michelin-star dinner and cruising on down to the ever-growing Le Mans Classic.

ITINERARY
After an overnight ferry crossing to Caen, where you’ll have the comfort of a private cabin, the morning begins with a scenic countryside drive of around 1 hour and 20 minutes through Normandy. There’s time to stop for coffee or a viewpoint along the way before arriving at Château de Saint Paterne around midday. The afternoon is left free to relax after travelling, followed by dinner in the château’s dining room, with the option to take part in a wine tasting in the evening.
After breakfast at the château, the drive continues southeast through the Loire countryside, with a stop at the Matra Museum in Romorantin-Lanthenay to discover the brand’s rich motorsport heritage across Formula 1, endurance racing and rally. A light lunch is taken before continuing the scenic journey into the volcanic landscapes of the Chaîne des Puys. By late afternoon you’ll check in at Volca Lodges, where guests can relax and take in the views before a group dinner at the lodge. The evening is kept easy with an early night to prepare for the track action ahead.
The day begins with a short transfer from the lodge to Circuit de Charade, arriving in time for the morning driver briefing. Guests then enjoy a full racing immersion with the Classic Racing School, taking to the track in vintage Formula Ford cars for a series of 20-minute sessions on the historic French Grand Prix circuit. Professional instructors are on hand throughout, with bespoke race suits, helmets, and a true “mini Le Mans” experience to round off the morning - complete with open bar, lunch, and a celebratory champagne ceremony.
In the afternoon, there’s time to relax before the evening’s highlight: a dinner by a Michelin star chef at Le 9 Restro Bistro, returning afterwards to the hotel for the night.
CIRCUIT DE CHARADE - IN PROFILE
Circuit de Charade is a true legend of French motorsport. Set in the volcanic hills above Clermont-Ferrand, its fast, twisting layout once hosted the French Grand Prix between 1965 and 1972, attracting icons like Jackie Stewart and Jim Clark. Today, the modern 3.9 km circuit still carries that same sense of challenge and history, giving you the chance to drive in the wheel tracks of Formula 1 greats.
