This four-day tour visits quiet historic villages, spectacular castles, fast-flowing rivers and ancient abbeys. The tour’s base is the 4-star Castel de Point-a-Lesse Hotel. Located close to the historic town of Dinant, it offers contemporary rooms, an excellent bar, bistro and restaurant, and an array of facilities including an indoor swimming pool.
The tour offers the chance to explore nearby Dinant and its Citadel that dominates the skyline, and to experience the Leffe beer museum. Beyond this the escorted tour takes in the World War II history-rich village of Brûly-de-Pesche; Chimay, famous for its beer namesake; and Durbuy, that claims to be the world’s smallest city.
The tour includes return Eurotunnel crossing, four nights accommodation at the Castel de Point-a-Lesse Hotel, including bed & breakfast, evening meals, entry to the Mahymobiles car collection, and escorted tour guides from Jaguar experts.
Day 1 - Sunday, 10 Sept
Check-in at 09:00 for the 09:50 Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. From Calais the tour drives east via Lille on to Tournai in Belgium. An optional stop awaits at the amazing Mahymobiles car museum in Leuze-en-Hainaut, where more than 300 cars and motorcycles have been collected by one family since WWII. From the museum we head further south to the Belgian Ardennes, to the Hotel Castel de Pont-a-Lesse, near Dinant. Evening meals are included.
Day 2 - Monday, 11 Sept
A relaxing day so that guests can explore the local area. After a leisurely breakfast, it is possible to relax in the hotel and enjoy the “wellness facilities”. For a dip into some culture it is also possible to visit Dinant on the hotel’s doorstep. The town is famous for its Citadel that dominates the skyline as well as the cable-car that can take you to its summit. Alternatively, you could choose to visit the former convent that overlooks the winding river that is now the Leffe beer museum!
Day 3 - Tuesday, 12 Sept
Today’s road run allows us to explore the Ardennes countryside. We will visit a site of historical significance that was used in the summer of 1940 during the battle for France. The site is now home to a museum and memorial, dedicated to the war's effect on the local community. Just a short distance away is the town of Chimay. As well as being a good lunch stop, there is a museum, shop and abbey that are worth visiting. The town also gives its name to Wallonia’s most famous beer. The abbey itself opens up into stunning hidden gardens.
